Veil Series
This body of work investigates the dynamics of human relationships, using pattern as a metaphorical element to suggest emotional and/or behavioral patterns. As the series progresses, the pattern morphs into an object or visual veil, intentionally obscuring the background image and forcing the viewer to piece together a narrative without complete information.
This work continues my research of integrated digital and traditional printmaking technologies. The image begins as a 3d computer-generated model built and manipulated as a theatrical set inside the computer. The model is rendered and then imported into Photoshop for additional manipulations. It is then color-separated into the four process colors (cyan, magenta, yellow and black). Each color separation is printed onto a transparency and exposed to printing plates or screens, and printed in the respective CMYK colors. This process of constructing, deconstructing, and re-constructing the image is parallel to the fragmented approach required to view and interpret the image.
